Sport, culture and joy of life: Lake Constance

Not only is it the third-largest lake in central Europe – Lake Constance’s location between Austria, Germany and Switzerland, and between towering mountains and the fascinating Rhine valley, make the lake a cultural crossing point. Our hotel and the “Bodensee,” as Lake Constance is called in German, are just minutes away from each other by car. Bregenz, with its broad public lido and famous lake stage, makes a good starting point. How about going for a sail or a boat trip? From the water, you have a different view of the region and the wonderful lakeside architecture. Whichever water sport you prefer – you’ll find almost everything here.

More than just the grand opera: welcome to Bregenz

If you are a lover of art and music, good food and a relaxed attitude to life, then you must visit the capital of the Vorarlberg region. The festival hall and the lake stage, which host the Bregenzer Festspiele (Bregenz Festival), are well known; the Kunsthaus gallery, built by the architect Peter Zumthor, is a magnet for culture lovers. In summer, the promenade and lido are the centre of the action, offering everything from sunbathing to stand-up paddling to bbq evenings. The cuisine can be anywhere from simple to sophisticated – just like the city.

Grand opera in the open air: the Bregenz Festival

Top-class opera on the lake stage, premieres, concerts in festival hall, bold and touching performances on the workshop stage and in the Kornmarkt Theatre – July and August are all about the Bregenzer Festspielen festival, which features more than 80 performances every year. Around 200,000 guests visit each year to experience the unique atmosphere and the wonderful lake stage. The festival’s allure continues well beyond the festival itself – throughout the year, holiday makers and locals visit the lake stage for its impressive sets and also just for its incredible location.

Schattenburg Castle Feldkirch

The mediaeval Schattenburg Castle has been the landmark of the city of Feldkirch since the 13th century. It is one of the best-preserved castle complexes in central Europe. It houses an impressive museum and offers visitors a lively insight into life in centuries past. From the castle keep, you can enjoy a view of the whole city, and after your trip through time in the castle museum, the beautiful courtyard of the castle café Schlosswirtschaft is the perfect place for a break.
